Dr. Felix Marattukalam

I’m an engineer with a strong interdisciplinary background spanning electronics, computer, and software engineering. I earned my PhD in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Auckland in 2023, where my research focused on computer vision for contactless human recognition using hand-vascular biometrics. I currently serve as a Senior Research Technician at the University of Auckland and a Senior Engineer at Restore Labs Ltd, a New Zealand–based space and remote sensing research company pioneering efficient Earth observation technologies. Alongside these roles, I consult with security and biometric organisations across New Zealand, Europe, and the USA on AI-driven security and identity systems. My career has included positions such as Data Scientist with the Digital Forensics and Biometrics Team at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, Head of Advanced AI Research at Watchful Ltd (USA), and Professional Teaching Fellow at the University of Auckland. My work continues to bridge academic research and industry innovation in artificial intelligence, biometrics, and remote sensing.
